#Leatherhead town centre plans to be unveiled ‘shortly’

Ignore today’s mailshot- the general election affects what Councils can do and MVDC has decided to delay the intended engagement until a later date after 5 July.

This will be a pre-application engagement ahead of a planning application rather than just concepts or ideas. As there is now a joint venture contract in place with MVDC providing the land and Kier Property doing the building, with architects TP Bennett engaged on design.

The drop in events – including one at the Jam Space North Leatherhead near Tesco and others in the Swan Centre – itself part of the redevelopment scheme – were due to be held in June. A mail shot has already been delivered by the Royal Mail.

The riverside redevelopment by McCarthy and Stone is being taken forward separately. There is already an approved planning application for that site and a demolition contract for Clare and James House in place. We understand McCarthy Stone may make a revised though similar application now that the site will be retirement living only on the upper floors.

Meanwhile just for some comparison here are some examples of other developments recently constructed or approved in neighbouring areas plus one in Leatherhead :

Jolly Boatman site in Elmbridge opposite Hampton Court Palace
A McCarthy Stone development
New Malden former Tudor Williams site
New Malden Coombe Road with town houses behind larger blocks approx 7 storey
Already built in Leatherhead on the ex Food Laboratory site Randalls Way on a higher setting than Bull Hill (above and below)
