Town centre updates Leatherhead 11 April

Town centre updates :

Swan Centre

A Changing Places Toilet is now located in the Swan Centre Leatherhead.

Situated on the ground floor (alongside the other toilets to the left of Sainsbury’s main entrance, by the ramp up to Leret Way), the facility offers a larger, more accessible space for those who need it.

Access to the facility is via a RADAR key, or call the centre management team on 01372 376358. Changing Places UK

Mole Valley District Council was last year awarded £120,000 as part of the Government’s Changing Place scheme Changing Places toilets offer individuals who struggle to use standard toilets much greater accessibility, with the addition of hoists, adult-sized changing benches and space for carers.

Patients of the Dental Elements practice in Leatherhead have recently been updated that they are relocating into the heart of the town centre to Granary House, a modern building off North Street.

This is close to their current location at Upper Fairfield, and the move is happening soon over a weekend.

Granary House,
18A North Street,
Leatherhead, KT22 7AW

Our new practice is completely brand new and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. We cannot wait for you to experience it. The location is strategically situated in the town centre, just behind the former Lloyds and HSBC banks – opposite the Penny Black pub and Charlie and Ginger’s coffee place. It is just a 2-minute walk from our existing practice, making it easily accessible for all our patients.

Our primary goal during this move is to maintain the high standard of dental care you have come to expect from us at Dental Elements. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time of transition. Rest assured; we have a plan to minimise any inconvenience to you.

Phased move: Less disruption

During the next few weeks, we will undergo a phased move. Our goal is to keep our clinics open and running to minimise disruption and ensure that our patients can still be treated.

To facilitate our move, we have unfortunately decided to cancel clinics from Friday 12th April 2024 to Monday 15th April 2024 (inclusive) to move some of the surgeries to the new site. There will be an emergency provision for an dental emergencies and limited clinic sessions. However, we cannot open in the new site until all the necessary inspections have been carried out by fire / NHS / CQC and building control authorities.

Remain open in Upper Fairfield Road

Whilst we are waiting the inspection results for Granary House (new site) we will continue to see patients at the existing UPPER FAIRFIELD ROAD site, but with two surgeries compared to the usual four. To minimise disruption we are extending our shift work pattern so in the short term we have extended the opening hours at the existing UPPER FAIRFIELD ROAD site (07:30-13:30 and 14:00-20:00) from Monday through till Friday and then Saturday 0800-1400 until we are approved to open at the new Granary House site.

Please keep an eye out for communications from us regarding your appointments. Our team will be in touch with you personally to update you on any changes to your scheduled visits.

This arrangement will hopefully be for not more than two weeks (depending on approval from higher authorities), and it would mean that there might be some changes to the timings of your appointments during this transition period. We understand that this may cause some inconvenience, and we sincerely apologise for any disruptions this may cause to your schedule.

Our team is committed to ensuring that these changes are as smooth and seamless as possible for you.

If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Your comfort and care remain our top priority.

Thank you for your continued trust and support. We can’t wait to welcome you to our new home at Granary House.

Other premises in North Street area

The former HSBC next to Granary House (entrance pictured between there and the former Lloyds) right next to the bus stops, continues to be marketed by agents CBRE

The former bed and mattress shop at 22-30 North Street has now been vacated and at 2680 sq ft is the largest class E ground floor unit currently available in the town centre via agents SHW.

Brochure link. Class E can be most commercial uses from retail, medical, restaurant and offices.

As with the Church Street unit being taken by McDonald’s the only additional planning consent is if takeaway is added to a food and beverage business use, plus signs and shopfront. No permission is needed for a shop to become a restaurant. Councils have very limited powers to prevent a unit being taken by a particular business that has agreed terms with a commercial landlord.

MVDC does have some influence over leases within the Swan Centre as its owner, though this is now going into the joint venture Leret Partnership with Kier Property for redevelopment

Planting of some of the new vehicle-resistant wooden planters has now started in the Church Street area (Pic by Dorothy Stapleton) This is organised via MVDC grounds maintenance contractor. The positioning and movement of planters was undertaken by SCC and its contractor as highways authority. Some of the planters in reserve outside the ex Barclays might well remain there for an anticipated food and beverage business opening there once the residential conversion of the upper floors is completed. This one is likely to require a premises licence for alcohol as well as serving food.
